JOIN THE COALITION OF OVER 80 ORGANIZATIONS TO MANAGE THE IMPACT OF WAKESPORTS

Wisconsin Lakes is partnering with other Wisconsin nonprofit organizations and private businesses to call for statewide standards to limit the impact on the safety and enjoyment of lake users as well as on the lake environment from watercraft using ballast tanks and other devices to enhance their wakes.

Your lake organization is welcome and encouraged to join this coalition as well!

Wisconsin LakesLakes at Stake WisconsinWisconsin’s Green FireWisconsin Wildlife Federation, and Last Wilderness Alliance all joined forces to develop a platform that we believe protects Wisconsin’s lake resources without being overly restrictive of the right to recreate on our lakes. This core group has been joined by many other groups who agree with our principles and wish to see something move forward in the next legislative session.

Specifically, we are calling for:

Local Control – Local municipalities’ existing right to enact or maintain local ordinances that are more restrictive than these state minimums shall be preserved

700 Feet From Shore – Wake-enhanced boating activities should occur at least 700’ from the shoreline.

30-Foot Depth – Wake-enhanced boating activities must be done in depths of no less than 30 feet.

Prevent Invasive Species in Ballast Tanks – Boats moving from lake to lake must have proof of decontaminated ballast tanks before entering lakes

HELP US WELCOME BEN WOJAHN AS THE NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF WISCONSIN LAKES!

Wisconsin Lakes is excited to announce the appointment of Ben Wojahn as our new Executive Director!

Ben is already hard at work, benefitting from some overlap with outgoing E.D. Mike Engleson, who departs at the end of the month.

Ben comes to Wisconsin Lakes from a long career working for and leading county land and water conservation departments, and he’s as eager to get working for the lakes and waters of Wisconsin as we are to have him!

Read more about Ben on our blog, here

And please consider helping Ben out with a welcome gift! Your donations will help him help Wisconsin Lakes continue to grow as a powerful advocate for Wisconsin’s lakes and surface waters and as a key resource for lake organizations across the Badger state.

Your Statewide Lake Association

We Speak for Lakes!

Wisconsin Lakes, formerly known as the Wisconsin Association of Lakes, is the only statewide non-profit organization working exclusively to protect and enhance the quality of Wisconsin’s 15,000 lakes. For more than 20 years, Wisconsin Lakes has worked toward statewide solutions for the challenges faced by our abundant natural water resources while supporting strong local protection efforts. We represent citizens and lake groups like you who care about Wisconsin’s lakes as a shared resource, and who appreciate the value lakes bring to our quality of life, tourist economy, and property tax base. Wisconsin Lakes seeks to protect the natural wonder of our lakes, and preserve our collective right to boat, fish, hunt, ice skate, swim and enjoy the scenic beauty of our shared public waters.
